Freed is the self serve counterweight to the enterprise scribes: an ambient AI documentation tool a clinician can sign up for and start using the same day, no sales call, no IT deployment, no annual contract. Founded in 2022 in San Francisco, Freed reports more than 25,000 clinicians across 1,000 plus organizations and over 32 million patient visits transcribed. The pitch is deliberate simplicity: record a visit on phone, desktop, or tablet, get a structured SOAP note within a minute or two, review, and push it to the EHR.

Freed is also the rare vendor in the lane with fully public pricing. Starter runs $39 per month for up to 40 notes, Core runs $79 per month for unlimited notes with an instant template builder and an AI clinician assistant that answers questions from 50 plus medical sources with linked citations, and Premier runs $119 per month, or $104 per month billed annually, adding EHR Push, ICD-10 and CPT codes, visit summaries, and patient instructions. A seven day free trial requires no credit card, students get half off monthly plans, and small groups pay individual rates while ten plus clinicians get custom quotes. Community health center Camarena Health rolled Freed out across 55 clinicians and 24 sites with no formal deployment.

The tradeoffs match the price point. EHR Push works through a Chrome extension into browser based EHRs; there is no native EHR API write back, so structured field level integration is out of scope. Specialty depth outside primary care is a known weakness, with procedure heavy and subspecialty documentation needing more editing. Security posture is solid for the tier: SOC 2 Type II, a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement by default, automatic deletion of recordings, and an opt out from model training. Freed has begun expanding beyond the note with pre charting and a Front Desk product. For solo clinicians and small practices that want predictable cost and same day setup, it is the default pick in the lane.
