Sana
Also known as: Sana AI, Sana Labs, Sana Agents, Workday Sana
Enterprise AI knowledge assistant and no code agent platform grounded in company data. Connects 100+ apps with permission aware retrieval, model choice, and citations. Now part of Workday.
Sana is an enterprise AI platform that turns a company's scattered knowledge into a single assistant and a set of custom agents that can find answers and do real work. It was founded in Stockholm in 2016 by Joel Hellemark and Anna Nordell Westling, originally as an AI native learning company, before expanding into the workplace knowledge assistant and agent platform it is known for today. The company raised more than one hundred thirty million dollars from investors including New Enterprise Associates, and in September 2025 it was acquired by Workday for approximately one point one billion dollars. The agent platform is now marketed both as Sana and as Workday Sana.
At its core Sana is grounded in your own information rather than the open web. Its retrieval system, which the company calls A-4, runs search across structured and unstructured sources at once and returns answers with citations that deep link back to the original document, meeting, or record. The assistant is multimodal and can read PDFs, slides, spreadsheets, images, tables, and video, and it can pull from more than one hundred connected applications. Retrieval is permission aware, so each person only ever sees results from the sources they are already entitled to access.
Beyond answering questions, Sana lets teams build custom agents with no coding required. These agents run multi step workflows end to end, work in parallel, take actions in connected systems such as updating a CRM or posting to Slack, and can critique and revise their own output until a task is resolved. The platform is built to be model agnostic, so administrators can choose and switch between leading providers including OpenAI and Anthropic, with a zero day retention policy applied to third party models. A no code workflow builder lets non technical staff assemble the steps an agent follows.
Sana is aimed at mid market and enterprise buyers who have knowledge spread across many tools and strict requirements around access and compliance. It is single tenant, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, and GDPR compliant, with encryption at rest and in transit, single sign on, SCIM provisioning, and optional data residency in the European Union. Commercially it runs on a free tier for individuals and small teams, a self serve Team plan at roughly thirty dollars per user each month, and a custom enterprise tier that adds single sign on, application programming interface access, analytics, and a single tenant deployment. It competes most directly with Glean and Microsoft Copilot in the enterprise knowledge and assistant category.

Use cases & customers
In practice
A new sales rep needs to prep for a call but the answers are buried across the CRM, past decks, and old meeting recordings. They ask Sana and get a cited brief in seconds.
An operations team builds a no code agent that reads incoming vendor contracts, extracts the key terms, updates the system of record, and posts a summary to Slack for a human to approve.
A compliance lead worries staff will surface data they should not see. Because Sana mirrors each source system's permissions, every employee only gets answers drawn from documents they are already cleared to open.
