Workflow and decisioning platform whose Agentic Process Fabric orchestrates agents across enterprise systems, built on a contrarian split of AI reasoning at design time from governed execution at run time. FedRAMP High authorised.

Pega is a workflow, case management and decisioning platform that has built its agentic strategy around a deliberately contrarian architectural claim. Pega separates creative AI reasoning at DESIGN time from semantic AI execution at RUN time. Blueprint design agents generate optimised workflows during ideation; at runtime, agents find and follow those approved workflows rather than reasoning freely. Pega argues directly that most agentic solutions deploy AI reasoning at run time and that this introduces unnecessary risk and unpredictability during mission critical work.

The pieces fit together in sequence. Pega Blueprint generates workflows and decisioning strategies, usable with a free Pega user ID. Those workflows become Pega Predictable AI Agents through the Pega Agent Experience API. Agentic Process Fabric then acts as the orchestration layer above them, analysing its library of discoverable agents, workflows and data across Pega and non Pega systems and enlisting whichever is best suited to a task. Where no automation exists, it can invoke Blueprint to design a new workflow on the fly under human governance. Users reach these agents through chatbots, email, voice and other channels.

Security and deployment are where Pega separates itself from newer entrants. Pega Cloud for Government holds FedRAMP High Authority to Operate, granted in March 2025 after a FedRAMP High In-Process designation, alongside SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and HITECH, PCI DSS, FIPS 140-2 Level 1 cryptographic modules and Department of Defense Impact Level 2. Deployment spans Pega managed cloud, government cloud on AWS GovCloud, client managed cloud using Pega Docker images on any Kubernetes environment, and on premise, with a Cloud Choice Guarantee promising full support and no penalty for migrating between any of them.

The honest limits are model transparency and evaluation. No first party model selection or routing surface was retrieved, and while Pega markets predictable outcomes with predictable costs, no agent evaluation harness is documented as a first class capability.

Integrations

Agentic Process Fabric registers agents, workflows and data across both Pega applications and third party IT systems, making them immediately discoverable and callable. Supports the open Model Context Protocol and Agent-to-Agent standards, so Pega processes can be discovered and executed by authorised external agents including those built on Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, OpenAI and AWS AgentCore. The Pega Agent Experience API turns existing application workflows into callable agents. Blueprint design agents ingest and analyse legacy system assets to support modernisation.

In practice

A bank lets employees invoke agents from chat or email while every action runs inside an approved, auditable workflow, so the agent cannot improvise its way through a regulated process.

A federal agency runs the platform in Pega Cloud for Government under FedRAMP High authorisation, automating case work on sensitive data that most agentic vendors cannot legally touch.

An enterprise already running Claude or Gemini agents registers its Pega processes on the Fabric so those external agents can discover and execute governed workflows rather than being rebuilt on a new platform.

Integrations & Tool CallingThe Fabric registers agents, workflows and data across Pega applications and third party IT systems, making them immediately available; connects any agent to that asset library without bespoke integration work, and Blueprint ingests and analyses legacy system assets. Pega Agentic Process Fabric launch release 2026-08-07 Full
Workflow OrchestrationAgentic Process Fabric is an orchestration layer that analyses a library of discoverable agents, workflows and data across systems and enlists the best fit for each task, invoking Blueprint to design new workflows where automation does not exist; supports agent to agent coordination and audits agent interactions across the full process lifecycle. Pega Agentic Process Fabric product page and launch release 2026-08-07 Full
Knowledge Grounding & RAGA registered library of discoverable agents, workflows and data spanning Pega and non Pega systems grounds task routing, and Blueprint design agents ingest, analyse and convert legacy system assets and generate the data model needed to move applications to the cloud. Pega Agentic Process Fabric launch release and Constellation Research briefing 2026-08-07 Full
Human Oversight & GuardrailsThe core architecture is a guardrail: creative AI reasoning is confined to design time while run time agents find and follow approved workflows, so agents operate on guided compliant paths rather than improvising. New workflows designed on the fly carry human governance built in, and enterprise controls restrict who can interact with agents or manage agent to agent communication. Pega Agentic Process Fabric launch release 2026-08-07 Full
Security, Identity & GovernanceFedRAMP HIGH Authority to Operate granted March 2025 for Pega Cloud for Government, the strongest credential graded in this index, alongside SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and HITECH, PCI DSS, FIPS 140-2 Level 1 cryptographic modules, DoD Impact Level 2 and Section 508; role based permissions, MFA, encryption in transit and at rest. Pega FedRAMP High announcement, Pega Cloud Security Guide and Pega Academy 2026-08-07 Full
Observability & AuditabilityOrchestration audits agent interactions across the process lifecycle and the Fabric presents every agent in one unified gateway for visibility and control, with comprehensive logging and monitoring supporting NIST 800-171 audit and accountability controls in the government cloud. Pega June 2026 PegaWorld release and compliance documentation 2026-08-07 Full
Memory & State PersistenceCase management persists long running stateful work across the process lifecycle and the Fabric maintains a durable registry of agents, workflows and data, but no agent memory or learned context layer distinct from case state is documented. Graded to match the airtable ruling so the axis stays comparable. Pega product documentation 2026-08-07 Partial
Deployment & Data ResidencyFour models: Pega managed cloud; Pega Cloud for Government on AWS GovCloud US East and US West; client managed cloud using Pega Docker images on the customer preferred Kubernetes environment; and on premise. The Cloud Choice Guarantee provides full support regardless of model and no penalty for migrating between any of them. Pega Academy deployment documentation 2026-08-07 Full
Prebuilt Agents, Templates & PacksPega Infinity ships packaged strategic applications including customer service, sales automation and industry specific CRM and case management, and Blueprint has generated thousands of client workflows from templates and best practices, usable with a free Pega user ID. Pega Infinity and Blueprint documentation 2026-08-07 Full
Triggers & Channel CoverageUsers engage agents on their preferred channels including chatbots, email and voice, and Pega processes can be triggered externally by authorised third party agents over MCP; the underlying case management engine is event driven across long running processes. Pega Agentic Process Fabric product page and June 2026 PegaWorld release 2026-08-07 Full
Model Flexibility & RoutingPega interoperates with agents built on Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, OpenAI and AWS AgentCore through MCP, which demonstrates multi vendor openness, but no first party model selection, routing or bring your own key surface for Pega's own agents was retrieved in this pass. Pega June 2026 PegaWorld release 2026-08-07 Partial
APIs, SDKs & MCP ExtensibilitySupports the open Model Context Protocol and Agent-to-Agent standards so Pega processes can be discovered and executed by authorised third party agents, and the Pega Agent Experience API converts existing application workflows into callable agents. Pega June 2026 PegaWorld release and Agentic Process Fabric launch 2026-08-07 Full
Testing, Debugging & OptimizationDesign time validation through Blueprint constrains agent behaviour before deployment and Pega markets predictable outcomes with predictable costs, but no agent evaluation harness, scoring or regression testing surface is documented as a first class capability. Pega product pages 2026-08-07 Partial
Browser & Computer UsePega ships robotic process automation that drives legacy application interfaces and announced a new design agent for RPA, which is computer use in substance; graded P rather than F because this pass retrieved passing references rather than a product surface. Verify Pega Robotic Automation documentation before relying on this axis. Pega PegaWorld briefing and government cloud description 2026-08-07 Partial

Cost watchouts

Enterprise workflow platform licensing in this category typically carries implementation and systems integrator cost well beyond the licence itself, and Pega deployments are historically large and long lived. Pega Cloud for Government is restricted to United States federal, state, local and tribal agencies and is not available elsewhere. Running the platform client managed shifts substantial infrastructure, Kubernetes and upgrade burden onto the customer.

Variable cost rationale

Nothing about the commercial model is public, so a buyer cannot forecast cost from vendor pages at all. Scoping dominates: deal size depends on application count, case volume, user population and deployment model, and the platform is typically bought alongside significant implementation services. The predictable costs claim made at PegaWorld 2026 is marketing language with no published rate card behind it, so it should not be read as pricing transparency.

Additional watchouts

Treat the free Blueprint tier as design layer only. It generates workflows; running them as governed agents in production is the licensed product.

Commercial notes

Pegasystems is a public company (NASDAQ: PEGA), so aggregate revenue and margin are visible in filings even though customer level pricing is not. That makes it easier to sanity check commercial scale here than for the private vendors it competes with.

Key ambiguities

Everything on the commercial side. No rate card, no unit of account and no published tiers were retrieved. Notably, at PegaWorld in June 2026 Pega marketed predictable outcomes with PREDICTABLE COSTS as a differentiator for running third party agents against Pega processes, but published nothing to substantiate the cost claim.

Missing data

List prices, unit of account, tier structure and any published agent consumption metric.
