Writer Agent
Also known as: Writer
Enterprise agent platform with brand-safe automation, Knowledge Graph RAG, configurable agent skills and playbooks, targeting knowledge-worker teams with strict governance requirements.
Writer is a full-stack enterprise platform for agentic AI, distinguished by the fact that it builds its own models rather than wrapping someone else's. The company develops a family of large language models called Palmyra, purpose-trained on business and marketing content, and pairs them with an application layer for building agents, so a single vendor supplies both the foundation model and the tools to put it to work. Its flagship model offers a very large context window and is designed specifically for running multi-step enterprise agents.
The agent side of the platform centers on a hub the company calls AI HQ, where teams build, activate, and supervise agents. Through Writer Agent, an employee can describe a task in natural language, such as drafting a presentation, analyzing financial data, or generating a campaign, and have it carried out across connected systems, then save the workflow as a reusable Playbook that runs on a schedule. For teams that want to build more deliberately, AI Studio is a collaborative workspace where business and technical people assemble an agent end to end, laying out its interface with drag-and-drop blocks, mapping its tool calls and decision flow visually, and chaining prompts without code.
Agents are grounded in company data through Writer's Knowledge Graph, which connects them to enterprise sources and supports retrieval and live web research, and they can take real actions: calling tools, updating systems, sending communications, and triggering downstream workflows. Because Writer grew out of content and brand governance, it puts particular weight on keeping output on-brand and compliant, which matters for regulated and marketing-heavy organizations.
Governance runs through the whole lifecycle. Writer lets administrators observe and control agents, models, and connected platforms, apply approval steps before deployment, monitor in production, and define governed, permissioned pathways to data. Its owned models carry a backward-compatibility commitment so model upgrades do not break production agents, and the platform can also bring in external models alongside Palmyra under the same governance. Writer carries enterprise certifications including SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, and PCI, does not train on customer data, and makes its Palmyra models available both directly and through Amazon Bedrock.

In practice
You want one vendor for both the model and the agents on top, not a stack stitched from third parties. Writer builds its own Palmyra models and pairs them with tools to build, run, and govern agents.
A marketing or finance employee needs to draft a deck or analyze data across systems without coding. Writer Agent takes the task in plain language and runs it across connected tools, saved as a reusable Playbook.
Your output has to stay on-brand and compliant in a regulated industry. Writer grounds agents in your data via a Knowledge Graph, enforces brand and approval controls, and carries SOC 2, HIPAA, and PCI certifications.

Recent platform changes
Writer released Palmyra X6, a new 744-billion-parameter model optimized for marketing and revenue tasks, alongside a rebuilt Agent harness. The upgraded orchestration engine allows the agent to run unattended on a single objective for up to eight hours, dynamically adapt its reasoning, and delegate work to sub-agents or batch-execute tasks. The release also introduces new AI Studio governance tools for administrators to track token consumption and configure multi-model support, including third-party models from Anthropic and OpenAI.
Bears on: Workflow orchestration
View sourceWriter released Palmyra X6, its new general-purpose model optimized for agentic work and long-running tasks. Alongside the model update, Writer introduced Agent Memory to retain context across sessions and a new Capabilities tab in AI Studio that allows administrators to enable and restrict browser automation for agents.
Bears on: Agent capability
View sourceWriter announced Writer AI HQ, a new enterprise AI agent platform featuring customizable agent workspaces for specific teams. The release includes Supervise in beta, an observability command center that allows administrators to enforce policies, monitor performance, and troubleshoot agents using logs, traces, and execution paths.

seats
Included quota
Starter (up to 5 users, fixed monthly credit limits): 100+ prebuilt agents, AI Studio, Ask WRITER, one Knowledge Graph with Google Drive connector, up to 5 custom agents. Enterprise: Pro seats plus unlimited free Lite seats (view and run playbooks, limited Agent usage), all Knowledge Graph data connectors, unlimited custom agents, advanced security, flexible deployment. Separate token based API pricing exists for Palmyra models in AI Studio.
What is public
Writer publishes Starter pricing at 29 dollars per user a month billed annually or 39 monthly, capped at 5 users with fixed credit limits and a 14 day free trial without a card. Enterprise for 21+ users is custom quoted and adds unlimited free Lite seats alongside paid Pro seats, all Knowledge Graph connectors, advanced security, and flexible deployment. AI Studio publishes token based API pricing for Palmyra models. Third party buyer data puts median annual enterprise spend around 33,800 dollars.
Billing mechanics
Two tier structure: self serve Starter at 29 dollars per user a month billed annually (39 monthly), capped at 5 users with fixed credit limits and a 14 day no card trial; and sales led Enterprise (21+ users) combining paid Pro seats with unlimited free Lite seats, optional solution packs, and services. AI Studio API usage is priced separately per million tokens on Palmyra models.
Cost watchouts
Starter is capped at 5 users with fixed credit limits, so real organizational deployments land on custom priced Enterprise where buyer data puts median annual spend around 34,000 dollars, with mid market deployments commonly 75,000 to 250,000 dollars. Implementation, custom model work, and solution packs can add 20 to 50 percent over base platform cost, and premium support typically runs another 10 to 20 percent of contract value. Recent agent observability and governance capabilities land Enterprise only. Starter accepts cards only, no prorated refunds.
Variable cost rationale
Seat pricing is predictable at both tiers, but credit limits on Starter, token based API consumption, solution packs, and services introduce meaningful usage driven variance at enterprise scale.
Additional watchouts
Budget for the Enterprise tier if deploying beyond 5 users; the Starter price is not representative of organizational cost. Buyer reported contracts commonly run 10,000 to 50,000 dollars for small teams and 75,000 to 250,000 dollars mid market, with implementation timelines of 2 to 6 months to full value.

Commercial notes
Enterprise agent platform (WRITER Agent, playbooks, Knowledge Graph RAG, Palmyra LLMs) positioned for governance heavy deployments at organizations like Vanguard, Uber, and Accenture. Zero data retention approach with no training on customer data by default. Note July 13, 2026 deprecation of older Palmyra models (palmyra-x-003, vision, med, fin, creative) consolidating onto Palmyra X5.
Key ambiguities
Enterprise pricing (21+ users) is fully custom and unpublished; total cost depends on seat count, API consumption, solution packs, and services. The gap between the 29 dollar Starter seat and real enterprise contract values (median ~34,000 dollars a year in buyer data) is large.
Missing data
Enterprise list pricing, Lite to Pro seat ratios, solution pack pricing, and API volume discounts are unpublished.
