Intelligent document processing leader turned agentic platform: TotalAgility runs multi agent orchestration over document heavy workflows, with FedRAMP High, GovRAMP and IRAP PROTECTED authorisations across three jurisdictions.

Tungsten Automation, formerly Kofax, is the largest intelligent document processing vendor by revenue and has spent the last two years extending that base into agentic automation. Its platform, Tungsten TotalAgility, combines low code process design, AI driven document processing, case management and workflow orchestration in a single stack.

The agent layer is named and reasonably specific. Quick AI Agents create custom agents that interact with users and automate workflows. A Case Agent surfaces relevant information from complex case data through natural language queries. A Question Answering Agent works over unstructured long form content using semantic search and retrieval augmented generation. Multi Agent Orchestration coordinates several agents on a single complex case. The platform is packaged in three tiers aligned to those jobs: Intelligent Document Processing, Workflow Automation, and Knowledge Discovery.

Security is where this vendor genuinely leads. TotalAgility Cloud achieved FedRAMP High Authority to Operate in March 2026, added GovRAMP Authorized status for state, local, tribal and education buyers in June 2026, and was assessed at IRAP PROTECTED level in Australia shortly after. Tungsten frames this deliberately as one repeatable security foundation that travels across jurisdictions rather than a series of one off regional exercises, and federal customers can inherit controls from the FedRAMP boundary to shorten their own authorisation cycles. Underneath sit SOC 2 Type I and II annually, SOC 3 on request, ISO 27001 certification and QSA assessed PCI DSS, plus governance aligned to US Executive Order 14110 for AI enabled workflows.

The honest limits are on the model and evaluation axes. No model selection, routing or bring your own model surface was retrieved from Tungsten first party pages, and no agent evaluation or testing tooling is documented at all.

Integrations

Integrates alongside existing systems without rip and replace, with ERP integration, document intake from any channel, pre-integrated Microsoft Azure Read OCR, and Tungsten RPA for task automation. Enterprise identity through the customer own IdP with SSO, MFA and RBAC, and log centralisation into the customer SIEM. A full connector inventory and any MCP support were not retrieved in this pass.

In practice

A bank processes garnishee orders end to end, with agents classifying the document, extracting the obligation and driving the downstream case without an operator opening each file.

A federal agency inherits security controls from the FedRAMP High boundary to shorten its own authorisation cycle, moving document workflows off purely on premise deployments into cloud or hybrid.

A compliance team queries years of unstructured case files in natural language through the Question Answering Agent rather than commissioning a manual document review.

Included quota

Not published. Tier entitlements are described qualitatively rather than as quotas.

What is public

The three tier structure and its use case alignment are published. No prices, quotas or agent consumption units were retrieved.

Billing mechanics

Not publicly disclosed. Sold direct and through a partner channel including Titanium tier partners, and through US public sector contract vehicles for federal buyers.

Cost watchouts

Tier boundaries are drawn around capability rather than volume, so a customer needing knowledge discovery over unstructured content is pushed to the top tier regardless of size. Document processing volume and the number of RPA bots are the historical cost drivers in this category. TOKEN COST IS THE LIVE RISK: a Tungsten customer publicly calculated that a fully agentic approach to one AML and KYC workload would run 5 million USD a year in tokens against 250,000 for a hybrid design, so agent architecture choices dominate run cost far more than licence tier.

Variable cost rationale

Nothing commercial is published, so cost cannot be forecast from vendor pages. More importantly this is the one vendor in the sweep with hard evidence of how severe agent run cost can be: a customer calculated 5 million USD a year in tokens for a fully agentic AML and KYC design against 250,000 for a hybrid alternative. The variable component is therefore driven by architecture decisions made after purchase, which is the least predictable kind of exposure.

Additional watchouts

Model the token cost of the agent design separately from the licence. The vendor own customer evidence shows a twenty fold swing between fully agentic and hybrid architectures on the same workload.

Commercial notes

Private company, reported as the largest seller of intelligent document processing software by revenue, with roughly 25,000 customers and over 350 federal agencies. Scale is well evidenced even though pricing is not.

Key ambiguities

All prices, plus how agent execution is metered. Unlike most vendors in this sweep Tungsten has not published any named agent consumption unit, so whether agent runs draw on a licence entitlement or on pass through model cost is unknown.

Missing data

List prices, tier entitlements as quotas, agent metering, and RPA bot licensing.
