Quo
Also known as: OpenPhone, openphone.com, quo.com, Quo Sona
Sona is the AI voice agent inside Quo, the business phone system formerly called OpenPhone. It answers the calls a team misses or cannot take, follows jobs written in plain language, answers from a shared knowledge base, texts the caller a link mid call, transfers to a teammate, shared inbox or outside number, and opens Jobber requests. Every Sona call is recorded, transcribed and summarized, and a public API plus an OAuth MCP server let outside agents work with Quo calls, texts, contacts and tasks.
Quo, the business phone system formerly called OpenPhone and founded in 2018 by Mahyar Raissi and Daryna Kulya, puts calls, texts and contacts for more than 90,000 businesses into shared numbers and inboxes on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and the web. Plans cover calling, messaging, phone menus and call flows, a light CRM, tasks and analytics. The subject here is Sona, the AI agent sold as an add on to every plan. The phone system is context, and so is Quo Agent, an in app assistant in beta that drafts replies, tasks and contact updates for a person to approve.
Sona lives as a step in the call flow builder, so a business can place it after a ring group times out, on the after hours branch or ahead of voicemail, and run several Sona steps with different greetings, knowledge and jobs. Jobs are reusable instructions of up to 10,000 characters for scenarios such as lead qualification, escalation, taking a message, scheduling or sending an intake form, with up to 10 attached to each step. Actions placed inside a job let Sona text the caller a scheduling link, form or directions from the same business number, transfer the call to a workspace member, a shared inbox or an outside number once the caller agrees, or open a request in Jobber.
Knowledge pages of up to 20,000 characters come from typed text, website ingestion or uploaded PDF, CSV, JSON or Markdown files, and a vocabulary list helps with words unique to the business. With conversation history switched on, Sona reads the caller's last 21 days of calls, texts and voicemails with that inbox, up to 30 activities, so repeat callers do not start over. It speaks English, Spanish and French in four voices and answers inbound calls only, while a beta lead capture mode follows up new leads by text after a missed call and hands the thread to the team.
Every Quo plan includes 1,000 automation credits a month, about 10 Sona calls at 100 credits each. Paid tiers cost $25, $49, $99 or $199 a month for roughly 40, 100, 250 or 600 calls, overage runs from $1.00 a call on the free tier down to $0.45 on the top tier and stays off unless an admin enables it, and calls under 15 seconds are free. Sona needs a paid Quo seat: Starter at $19, Business at $33 and Scale at $47 per user a month, or $15, $23 and $35 billed annually.
Quo holds SOC 2 Type II, signs BAAs for HIPAA on Business and Scale, and offers single sign on, Owner, Admin and Member roles, and an audit log on Scale. Hosting runs on AWS and Google Cloud in the US, with OpenAI and Google Gemini as the language model providers, Deepgram for speech recognition and ElevenLabs for voices, all processing in the US.
Quo fits small and growing teams in home services, law, property management, healthcare and franchising that want an inexpensive agent answering their own business numbers inside the inbox their people already use, with per call pricing and a usage cap. It fits less well for teams that need outbound calling, custom API calls during a conversation, a choice of model or data region, or a phone system other than Quo, since Sona works only on Quo numbers.

Integrations
Sona actions: text the caller from the business number, transfer to a workspace member, shared inbox or outside number, and open a Jobber request. Quo integrations sync calls, texts, recordings and AI summaries with HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Attio, Zoho CRM, HighLevel, Clio, Jobber, Housecall Pro, Gong, Slack, Google Contacts and Fireflies.ai, with Zapier, Make and Pipedream for automation. The Quo API, with an OpenAPI v1 specification, covers calls, recordings, summaries, transcripts, messages, contacts, conversations, phone numbers and tasks, plus webhooks. A remote MCP server at mcp.quo.com/mcp uses OAuth 2.1, with official Claude, ChatGPT and Grok connectors. Language models come from OpenAI and Google Gemini, speech recognition from Deepgram and voices from ElevenLabs.
In practice
A plumbing company drops a Sona step after its ring group, attaches a lead qualification job and its pricing knowledge page, and lets Sona collect the address and urgency, text a booking link and transfer burst pipe emergencies to the on call technician.
A law firm runs one Sona step during office hours and another after hours, each with its own greeting and jobs, so evening callers receive an intake form by text while daytime callers can ask to reach the front desk.
A lawn care business on Jobber has Sona open a service request while the caller is still on the line, and the recording, transcript and summary land in the shared inbox for the crew lead to confirm the visit.

Three actions can be placed inside a job with a slash command: Send SMS texts the caller from the business number that took the call, Transfer call hands off to a workspace member, a shared inbox or an outside number, and Create Jobber request opens a service request in the business's Jobber account while the caller waits. That is the whole action list today, with no custom tools, webhooks or API calls for the agent to make during a conversation, and texts reach only the caller's own number. Quo's wider integrations sync call records and AI summaries into CRMs and field service tools after each call. Sourcesupport.quo.com/core-concepts/ai-automations/sona/actionsread 2026-10-18 |

| Workflow Orchestration | Partial |

Where the agent picks up is set in Quo's call flow builder, between phone menus, ring groups, business hours and voicemail branches, and one workspace can run several Sona steps with their own greetings, knowledge and jobs, such as one for office hours and one for nights. Each step carries up to 10 jobs, and a job holds step by step instructions with if and then branches in up to 10,000 characters. There is no handoff from one agent to another, no workflow canvas for the agent itself and no work that continues after the call, and a transfer ends the agent's part of the call for good. A workspace knowledge base holds pages of up to 20,000 characters each, created by typing, by giving website URLs for automatic extraction, or by uploading JSON, PDF, CSV, Markdown or plain text files of up to 10MB in batches. Pages are shared across the workspace and attached to individual Sona steps, so different steps answer from different pages, and an edit to a page reaches every step that uses it at once. A vocabulary list of custom keywords helps the agent recognize product names and terms unique to the business. Sourcesupport.quo.com/core-concepts/ai-automations/sona/knowledgeread 2026-10-18 |

Before any transfer the agent confirms with the caller, then rings a teammate, a shared inbox or an outside number, and the call drops to voicemail if nobody answers since the agent cannot rejoin. Lead capture by text hands the thread to the team once details are collected, and admins can watch the agent's status on live conversations. Spending is capped by default, with calls routed to the call flow's fallback path once credits run out. Nothing the agent does on a call waits for a person to approve it first. Workspaces carry three roles, Owner, Admin and Member, with a permissions table that limits who can remove members, change roles, manage numbers and generate API keys, and single sign on runs through the customer's identity provider. Quo holds SOC 2 Type II, signs Business Associate Agreements and supports HIPAA on Business and Scale plans, and an audit log comes with Scale. Data is encrypted with TLS 1.2 or later in transit and AES 256 at rest, and security documentation is available on request through the trust center. Sourcequo.com/securityread 2026-10-18 |

Every call the agent handles is recorded, transcribed and summarized, even on the Starter plan, and a Handled by Sona filter lists those calls on every device. Texts the agent sends show up in the caller's inbox thread under a Sona user, so a team can tell them apart from its own, and summaries and transcripts are also available through the API. There is no record of which job ran or which action fired beyond what the transcript shows, and the audit log on the Scale plan covers the workspace rather than agent activity. Conversation history, switched on per Sona step, lets the agent read the caller's recent calls, texts and voicemails with the inbox that is answering, looking back 21 days and up to 30 activities, so it can skip questions already answered and pick up unfinished requests. History stays separate for each inbox and leaves out internal notes, comments and labels. What it reads is the inbox's own conversation record rather than a store the agent writes and keeps, so removing it for one caller would mean removing that caller's messages and calls. Quo runs as a single multi tenant cloud hosted on AWS and Google Cloud, and its subprocessor list places every provider in the US, including Twilio for voice and SMS, OpenAI and Google Gemini for language models, Deepgram for speech recognition and ElevenLabs for voices. There is no region selection, private cloud or on premises option, and the agent works only on Quo numbers inside Quo call flows, never on another phone system. A job guide in the resource center offers six example jobs, lead qualification, escalation, take a message, schedule an appointment, send address or directions, and send intake form, each with a script and a matching SMS template to paste into the Instructions field and adjust. Setup starts from one agent configured with a greeting, tone, voice, knowledge and jobs, and the Sona page frames it as an AI receptionist and answering service. There is no gallery of finished agents to adopt in the product. Sourcesupport.quo.com/core-concepts/ai-automations/sona/sona-job-guideread 2026-10-18 |

Calls reach the agent wherever a call flow sends them on a Quo local or toll free number: after a ring group times out, on an after hours branch, from a phone menu choice or ahead of voicemail. A lead capture mode in beta, free on every plan, starts a text conversation when a new number calls and nobody answers, collects the lead's details by SMS and hands the thread to the team. The agent answers inbound calls only, with no outbound dialing, schedule, webhook or API request to start a conversation, and it speaks English, Spanish and French, switching among the languages an admin selects. Two language model providers sit behind the product, OpenAI and Google Gemini, with Gemini also writing call summaries, alongside Deepgram for speech recognition and ElevenLabs for speech synthesis, and both model providers process in the US with training opted out. Quo decides which model handles what. Admins choose among four voices, a casual or professional tone and up to three languages, but no setting picks or pins the model behind the agent. A Test Sona button in the call flow builder places a mock call so the team hears how the agent greets, answers and runs its jobs before publishing, and it works before the add on is purchased, so a full setup can be tried first. Texts sent during a test arrive in the inbox from the business's own number. After launch, recorded and transcribed calls are the way to review quality, with no scored test cases, simulated conversation suites or quality dashboards for the agent. The agent works by voice on phone calls and by text in the Quo inbox, acting through its SMS, transfer and Jobber actions. It does not drive a web browser or desktop session, and none of its actions operate another application's interface; Quo's desktop and web apps are where a team reviews the agent's calls, not something the agent itself operates. Pricing
Sona credits free for about 10 calls a month, then $25, $49, $99 or $199 a month; Quo Starter $19, Business $33, Scale $47 per user a month
Monthly credit tier for the agent at 100 credits per call, with optional per call overage, plus Quo seats per user
Included quota
Tier 1 1,000 credits (about 10 calls), Tier 2 4,000 (about 40), Tier 3 10,000 (about 100), Tier 4 25,000 (about 250), Tier 5 60,000 (about 600); calls under 15 seconds use no credits.
What is public
Every credit tier price, included calls and per call overage rates, plus Quo seat prices monthly and annual.
Billing mechanics
Monthly credit tiers at 100 credits per call, optional per call overage, on top of Quo seats billed per user monthly or annually.
Cost watchouts
Sona is an add on to a paid Quo seat billed per user; call summaries for non Sona calls need Business or Scale; texts sent through the API or MCP draw on prepaid messaging credits.
Variable cost rationale
Each answered call over 15 seconds uses a fixed 100 credits whatever its length, so cost tracks call count rather than minutes, and the default cap stops spending once credits run out unless overage is enabled.
Additional watchouts
Calls stop reaching the agent once credits run out unless overage is switched on.
Overage / add-ons
Overage is off by default, and calls route to the call flow's fallback path when credits run out; once enabled, extra calls bill at $1.00, $0.75, $0.65, $0.55 or $0.45 a call depending on the tier.
Sales call required
No, self serve available
Free / trial
1,000 free automation credits (about 10 calls) every month on every paid Quo plan; seven day Sona trial for eligible workspaces; SMS lead capture free during beta
Lowest paid plan
Sona Tier 2 at $25 a month for 4,000 credits (about 40 calls), on top of a paid Quo seat from $19 per user a month
Commercial notes
Self serve from a free monthly allowance of about 10 calls, with a seven day trial and a default spending cap.
Key ambiguities
Seat prices on the pricing page come from an Amplitude pricing experiment and may differ by visitor; post beta pricing for SMS lead capture has not been announced.
Support SLA / resale
Quo runs a partner program and a directory of Quo Experts who set up and resell the phone system.
Missing data
Pricing for SMS lead capture after its beta.
