Voice AI agents for hands-free ordering and automotive and IoT applications.

SoundHound AI (Nasdaq: SOUN) is a global voice and conversational AI company that builds voice-first AI agents for businesses. It has developed core voice technology for more than two decades, including its Speech-to-Meaning and Deep Meaning Understanding approaches and its Polaris speech recognition, which is engineered to understand users across accents, tempos, and background noise. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Keyvan Mohajer and is independent and publicly traded.

Its enterprise platform is Amelia, now in its agentic Amelia 7 generation, built on a framework SoundHound calls Agentic+. Agentic+ lets an AI agent act autonomously within clear rules while pulling in human input when a situation calls for it, and it orchestrates multiple specialized agents to complete multi-step requests: answering questions, executing transactions, and resolving issues over voice or text. The platform connects to enterprise systems and supports the MCP and A2A protocols, so a business can run self-built agents, SoundHound's pre-built agents, or external agents together in one environment.

SoundHound packages this into a set of products. Smart Answering handles inbound phone calls, Smart Ordering and Dynamic Drive-Thru automate restaurant ordering across channels, Employee Assist gives staff hands-free access to manuals and training, and Autonomics automates IT operations. Sales Assist, introduced in 2026, supports retail floor staff during live customer conversations by analyzing intent and surfacing recommendations and compliance disclosures to a screen.

A major focus is voice commerce in vehicles and on devices. SoundHound's in-vehicle agents let drivers order takeout, make restaurant reservations through OpenTable, pay for parking through Parkopedia, book tickets and travel, and reach calendar and email over MCP, all by speaking. Its Vision AI pairs a vehicle camera's real-time perception with the voice stack so the assistant can see and interpret surroundings, and with NVIDIA it has shown the agentic stack running entirely on the edge inside the vehicle.

SoundHound serves retail, financial services, healthcare, automotive, telecom, smart devices, and restaurants, with HIPAA-compliant healthcare agents that integrate with Epic. It was named a Leader in the 2026 Aragon Research Globe for Agent Platforms, and it is sold to enterprises and product makers on a custom basis.

In practice

Your drive-thru backs up at peak because every order goes through a person. SoundHound's Dynamic Drive-Thru and Smart Ordering take the order by voice across channels, so throughput isn't capped by staffing.

A driver wants to grab food and pay for parking without touching a screen. SoundHound's in-vehicle agents order takeout, reserve a table through OpenTable, and pay for parking through Parkopedia, all by voice.

You want voice agents that plug into your systems and work alongside agents you've already built. SoundHound's Amelia 7 supports MCP and A2A, so self-built, pre-built, and external agents run together in one platform.

Integrations & Tool CallingAn expanded library of third party integrations and pre built connectors lets agents retrieve enterprise application data via APIs and execute actions, extended in the CES 2026 release with named commerce partners including OpenTable and Parkopedia and MCP based access to calendars, email and messaging for booking meetings, SoundHound Amelia 7.0 release and CES 2026 announcement 2026-01-05 Full
Workflow OrchestrationThe Agentic+ framework orchestrates across large language models, deterministic flows and integrations for reasoning and action, letting businesses deploy fleets of goal oriented agents and handling complex queries by orchestrating multiple agents each with specific functions to resolve problems by text or voice without human intervention, SoundHound Amelia 7.0 platform release 2026-07-30 Full
Knowledge Grounding & RAGAgents operate with documented knowledge of the enterprise, with the platform letting businesses define the specific knowledge and functions needed to execute a task and shipping domain specific content per industry, though no retrieval architecture or RAG configuration was described on the pages reviewed, SoundHound Amelia 7.0 release and platform overview 2026-07-30 Full
Human Oversight & GuardrailsA layered oversight stack is documented rather than a single guardrail claim: layered guardrails, CONFIDENCE CHECKS, SAFE FALLBACKS and human escalation together keep responses trustworthy at scale, agents are grounded in customer system data and stated never to guess, and human in the loop functionality provides oversight and control where automation requires it, SoundHound Amelia platform pages 2026-07-30 Full
Security, Identity & GovernanceThe Amelia platform states compliance with ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 2 Type II, PCI DSS 3.2.1 and the HIPAA Safeguard Rule, stated consistently across the platform, healthcare and IT service desk pages, with the platform described as built for regulated industries and continuously verified through independent testing across all certifications and standards; healthcare deployments are positioned as HIPAA compliant agents integrated directly with Epic, SoundHound Amelia platform and solution pages 2026-07-30 Full
Observability & AuditabilityThe build interface ships analytics tooling plus an AI companion that answers questions and gives guidance while building, but no agent decision trace, reasoning log or audit trail was documented, SoundHound Amelia 7.0 release 2026-07-30 Partial
Memory & State PersistenceAgents handle complex multi turn interactions with context held inside a session, but no persistent memory store, customer record or cross conversation state layer was documented on the pages reviewed, SoundHound Amelia platform pages 2026-07-30 Unable to verify
Deployment & Data ResidencyGuardrails are stated to support safe reliable deployment in any environment and the same platform runs embedded in vehicles, TVs and smart devices as well as in the cloud, which is genuine deployment surface breadth, but no region selection or data residency commitment was documented on the pages reviewed, SoundHound Amelia 7.0 release and CES 2026 announcement 2026-07-30 Partial
Prebuilt Agents, Templates & PacksA library of business ready pre sets lets users build agents that fully automate familiar tasks such as password resets and reorders, alongside domain specific content per industry and named prebuilt products including Smart Answering, Smart Ordering and Dynamic Drive Thru, SoundHound Amelia 7.0 release and platform overview 2026-07-30 Full
Triggers & Channel CoverageA single agent configuration serves web chat, SMS and voice from the same knowledge base in over 100 languages, and the CES 2026 release extends the same platform into vehicles, TVs and smart devices, giving an unusually wide surface for an enterprise support agent, SoundHound Amelia platform overview and CES 2026 announcement 2026-01-05 Full
Model Flexibility & RoutingThe platform is stated to be LLM agnostic as a named platform pillar, with Agentic+ orchestrating across large language models rather than binding to one provider, SoundHound Amelia 7.0 platform release 2026-07-30 Full
APIs, SDKs & MCP ExtensibilityAmelia 7 can HOST ANY AGENT optimised for MCP and A2A protocols, so enterprises and OEMs can build on the platform using self built agents, prebuilt agents, or agents from outside the SoundHound ecosystem, or a mix of all three; both interop standards are named explicitly and third party agent hosting is the strongest extensibility claim in the lane after Kore.ai, SoundHound CES 2026 announcement 2026-01-05 Full
Testing, Debugging & OptimizationNo test environment, simulation harness, evaluation suite or scored agent benchmarking was documented on the platform or release pages reviewed; the only measurement surface described is build time analytics, SoundHound Amelia platform pages 2026-07-30 Unable to verify
Browser & Computer UseNo browser control or computer use capability documented; Vision AI debuted at CES 2026 combines visual and voice recognition so drivers can interact with their physical surroundings, which is environmental perception rather than operating a browser or a software interface, SoundHound CES 2026 announcement 2026-01-05 Unable to verify
