Nintex
Also known as: Nintex Agent Designer, Nintex Orchestration, Nintex CE, Nintex Process Platform, K2, Nintex Apps, Nintex Workflow, Nintex DocGen, Nintex eSign, Nintex Process Manager
Workflow automation veteran repositioned around agentic business orchestration, with phase based processes that can jump back and repeat steps, plus Agent Designer, FedRAMP Moderate and on premise AI via K2.
Nintex is a long established workflow automation and process management vendor that has repositioned around what it calls agentic business orchestration, announced as its strategic direction in September 2025. The agent capabilities arrived in March 2026 with Nintex Agent Designer and Nintex Orchestration, initially available to select customers natively in Nintex CE.
The architectural position is explicit and matches its BPM peers. Nintex blends deterministic execution, the structured rules based workflows it has always sold, with probabilistic agent driven AI, and states plainly that it does not consider these competing approaches but complementary tools inside the same platform, for control and intelligence rather than one or the other.
Nintex Orchestration is the more distinctive piece. It abandons the rigid start to finish workflow model for a modular, phase based approach in which processes can move forward, jump back and repeat steps as real world conditions demand, without starting over. That is a different shape from the linear pipelines most workflow tools enforce, and it is what allows agents to sit inside a process without breaking it.
Security and deployment are solid and well documented. Nintex holds SOC 2 Type 2 and SOC 3 reports and a FedRAMP Moderate authorisation for Nintex Workflow and Nintex DocGen for Salesforce, runs on Microsoft Azure across seven regions, and is monitored around the clock by an external managed security provider through a SIEM. K2 brought built in AI to on premise environments for the first time in 2026, which matters for customers who need data sovereignty.
The honest limits are the AI specific axes. No agent memory model, model selection surface or agent evaluation tooling was documented anywhere in this pass, and the agent products themselves are only months old and still gated to select customers. This is a mature automation platform at an early stage of its agent build.

Integrations
Multi system orchestration across ERP, CRM, HRIS and SaaS applications, with deep Microsoft ecosystem integration including Nintex Workflow for Office 365 and Nintex Forms for Office 365, plus Nintex DocGen for Salesforce and Nintex eSign. Hosted on Microsoft Azure. A full API and connector inventory was not retrieved in this pass.
In practice
An operations team models a claims process in phases so that when new information arrives the process can jump back to an earlier step and repeat it, rather than being cancelled and restarted from scratch.
A regulated organisation keeps automation on premise through K2 while still using built in AI, because data sovereignty rules prevent moving the workload to a shared cloud.
A Microsoft 365 estate adds agents to existing Nintex workflows through Agent Designer without replacing the deterministic steps that already work.

| Workflow OrchestrationNintex Orchestration replaces the linear start to finish workflow model with a modular phase based approach in which processes move forward, jump back and repeat steps as conditions demand without restarting; Agent Designer places agents inside that orchestration layer, blending deterministic rules based execution with probabilistic agent driven AI in one platform. | Knowledge Grounding & RAGSix AI actions add operational intelligence to document processing and Nintex Process Manager maintains mapped process knowledge that agents operate against, but no retrieval, vector or knowledge grounding layer is documented as a product surface. | Human Oversight & GuardrailsAgents dynamically manage workflows, assign tasks and adjust processes within stated governance frameworks, and the deterministic layer itself acts as a boundary on agent behaviour, but no specific approval gate, escalation path or review before execute mechanism was retrieved, unlike both BPM peers. Privileged accounts held separately from primary domain accounts with mandatory MFA, principle of least privilege with audit logged access changes, Veracode static scans before every release, annual third party penetration tests, OWASP Top 10 protections and formal data classification tiers. HONEST LIMIT: the January 2026 document still cites the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield framework for GDPR transfers, invalidated in 2020 and replaced in 2023. | APIs, SDKs & MCP ExtensibilityThe platform integrates across enterprise systems and ships developer facing products such as DocGen for Salesforce which moved to OAuth authentication in January 2026, implying an API surface, but no SDK family, public API documentation or MCP support was retrieved. Notable absence given both BPM peers ship MCP in both directions. Nintex platform documentation 2026-08-07 | Partial |
| Testing, Debugging & OptimizationProduction releases run through controlled pipelines across testing and staging environments, but that is Nintex own software delivery process rather than a customer facing capability; no agent evaluation, testing or debugging tooling for customer built agents was documented. Cost watchouts
Nintex spans several separately packaged product lines including Workflow, Apps, Process Manager, DocGen, eSign and K2, so a deployment can accumulate cost across multiple SKUs rather than one subscription. The agent capabilities in Agent Designer and Orchestration launched to SELECT CUSTOMERS ONLY in March 2026, so availability and price for a given buyer cannot be assumed. A third party customer forum comment references an October 2026 deadline for K2 with no further detail, which is unverified but worth diligencing for anyone dependent on that line.
Variable cost rationale
Nothing commercial was retrieved, so a buyer cannot forecast cost at all from the evidence in this record. Multiple separately packaged product lines compound that, and the agent layer is gated to select customers with no published metering. Marked high because the uncertainty is total rather than because a specific usage driver was identified, and this rationale should be replaced once real pricing is retrieved.
Additional watchouts
Do not assume the agentic capabilities are included in an existing Nintex subscription. They launched to select customers and their packaging is undocumented.

Commercial notes
Private company, so no filings offer a cross check on scale. This record deliberately carries no price figure rather than importing one from a third party aggregator.
Key ambiguities
Everything commercial, and specifically how the new agent capabilities are licensed relative to existing Nintex subscriptions. Given every other vendor in this sweep introduced a distinct agent consumption unit, the absence of any published agent metering here is a gap rather than evidence of inclusion.
Missing data
All pricing: units, tiers, list prices, agent licensing and whether Agent Designer carries a separate charge.
