Open-source AI agent platform with a visual block-based builder, agent marketplace, and continuous agent runtime, available as free self-hosted software or a hosted cloud with subscription plus pay as you go credits.

AutoGPT, built by Significant Gravitas (Redpoint backed, one of the earliest and best known open-source agent projects from the 2023 autonomous agent wave), has evolved into a full agent platform for building, deploying, and running AI agents that plan and execute multi-step digital work. The visual Builder composes agents from drag and drop blocks with branching, looping, and routing logic; the Dashboard tracks every run with per-agent, per-run, and per-day spend visibility; and the Marketplace offers community-built agents with ratings and real run counts, plus imports from n8n, Make.com, and Zapier. Agents run continuously, trigger from external sources, and connect to any tool, model, or API, with pre-integrated support for OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, and Llama models. The platform is open source and free to self-host via Docker Compose (bring your own model API keys), while the hosted cloud offers Pro, Max, and Team subscriptions with a pay as you go credit wallet for agent runs. A public REST API with an OpenAPI schema and generated SDK clients enables programmatic agent creation and execution. Platform code is licensed under Polyform Shield; the wider repository is MIT.

Pricing

Free to self-host the full open source platform with your own model API keys and hardware; the hosted cloud offers Pro, Max, and Team subscription plans with a pay as you go credit wallet for agent runs and deliberately no free cloud tier.

Subscription sets included AutoPilot Chat usage; agent runs draw from a prepaid credit wallet at the same rate on every plan.

Free tier

Cost watchouts

Self-host cost is dominated by your own model API keys and infrastructure; on cloud, heavy research agents consume more credits per run and the wallet must be topped up, so agent workload drives spend.

Variable cost rationale

On self-host, model API usage billed by OpenAI, Anthropic, or other providers dominates cost; on cloud, per-run credit consumption scales directly with agent workload.

Overage / add-ons

Agent runs draw down the prepaid credit wallet, which can be topped up any time at the same per-run rate on every plan.

Sales call required

No, self serve available

Free / trial

Self-hosting is genuinely free with no license fee or seat limit; the hosted cloud has no free tier by design.

Lowest paid plan

Self-host at zero dollars; cloud Pro plan amount not confirmed from retrieved page text.

Key ambiguities

Exact dollar amounts for the Pro, Max, and Team cloud subscriptions were not confirmed on the retrieved pricing page text.
