Workflow orchestration
A new AI decision step in Windmill flows asks a decision model, TypeSafe's Jev or Cloudflare's Clef on Workers AI, typed choice, score or yes or no questions about a state and returns calibrated answers with probabilities instead of text. The editor can insert a branch for each answer option, and the step can be handed to an AI agent as a tool.
Flows and agents can route on a probability or score that later steps read as typed fields rather than parsing free text, which makes branching logic testable and auditable.
Agent capability
AI agents are now their own item in Windmill, listed beside scripts, flows and apps with dedicated pages for running and editing them, including drafts, deployment and version history.
Agents become a versioned object a team can find, run and deploy on their own rather than a setting buried inside a flow step.
Pricing / packaging
Windmill v1.818.0 counts enabled service accounts as operator seats in self hosted Enterprise deployments, billing each as half a seat regardless of its assigned role. Enabled service accounts also count toward the offline license seat cap, and creation is refused when the cap is reached. The related Cloud Team billing change is separate from this release.
Organizations using dedicated identities for agents and automation need to include those accounts in license forecasts. Reviewing unused enabled accounts before upgrading can help avoid unexpected charges or blocked account creation.
Agent capability
Windmill enabled Anthropic prompt caching specifically for the Vertex AI agent. This update allows agents utilizing Anthropic models via Google Cloud's Vertex AI to cache context and instructions.
Prompt caching significantly reduces latency and API costs for workflows that reuse large contexts or system prompts. This makes deploying complex Anthropic-powered agents on Vertex AI much more economical for enterprise users.
Deployment / data residency
Windmill version 1.789.0 introduces an EXIT_AFTER_N_JOBS worker mode to manage environment cleanup by automatically restarting worker processes, alongside new memory limits for Go build subprocesses. The release also automates the process of building binaries to object storage upon deployment and adds the ability to open AI sessions directly from runs, jobs, and trigger pages.
Platform engineers running self-hosted instances gain an alternative process-recycling mechanism that ensures clean execution environments without requiring nsjail sandboxing. The contextual AI integrations further reduce troubleshooting friction by connecting the platform AI assistant directly to execution logs and jobs.
Workflow orchestration
Windmill released version 1.783.0, introducing public sharing options for job pages and git-sync pull request diff checks. The update also adds more development workspace environment labels and the ability to open session edits directly in the preview panel.
Teams can now easily share job execution results externally via public pages and better manage their infrastructure as code workflows with native PR diff checks during git synchronization.
MCP / tool calling / API
Windmill version 1.779.0 introduces raw application deployment directly from sources and custom worker tags for database jobs. The release also expands Model Context Protocol (MCP) support by exposing createApp and updateApp as full-code app tools and clarifying which MCP endpoint tools a token scope exposes.
Developers building AI agents can now leverage Windmill application creation tools directly over MCP, while platform engineers gain finer control over database job routing using custom worker tags.
Security / enterprise
Windmill shipped versions 1.777.0 and 1.778.0, adding Azure workload identity authentication for MSSQL and PostgreSQL resources. The releases also introduce a native dbt runtime with a dedicated editor and explicitly refreshed model graphs, session recording for the app development environment, and raw frontend access to the windmill-client SDK.
Enterprise users on Azure can now securely connect to databases using workload identities without managing static credentials. Data teams can orchestrate unmodified dbt projects directly within the platform without wrapper scripts, while session recording improves debugging and auditability.
