Workflow orchestration

Environments, now generally available on all Factory plans, are reusable definitions of the sandbox a Droid runs on, holding the repositories, tools and dependencies it needs and built into images ahead of time so each new sandbox is ready on arrival. Factory rebuilds each Environment every few hours and promotes only validated builds, and Automations can start each run on a fresh sandbox from the last good build. Administrators manage Environments centrally, and Factory's Enterprise Controls still apply inside every sandbox.

Teams can run many Droids in parallel on fresh, policy governed sandboxes instead of provisioning a machine per task, which matters most for scheduled Automations and long multi agent Missions.

Human approval / guardrails

Factory's September 19 release, CLI v0.223.0 and Desktop v0.180.0, changes the app's default session autonomy from Off to Medium when a user has not chosen a level. Medium permits file edits and reversible workspace operations such as dependency installation, builds, and local commits without repeated approval, subject to organization and safety controls. The same release adds an organization managed Databricks connector and requires confirmation for more commands that write to disks.

Administrators should review session defaults and organization autonomy limits before rollout because unconfigured app sessions can now perform a broader set of actions without intervention. Teams handling sensitive repositories can set explicit limits to match their review requirements.

Security / enterprise

Factory updated its Terms and Conditions for Individual Plans, detailing the licensing agreement for its AI coding platform and development tools. The revised terms explicitly state that customers grant Factory a non-exclusive license to access their connected codebases across platforms like GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket.

Legal and procurement teams must evaluate these updated data licensing clauses during procurement. Granting a direct codebase license to the vendor often requires strict review to ensure it does not conflict with internal intellectual property protection or data privacy policies.

Security / enterprise

Factory released Droid Shield 2.0 with two fine-tuned models for secret detection during autonomous commits, improving accuracy on real credentials versus false alarms while cutting latency and cost. Model weights were released for security research.

Teams running autonomous coding agents need protection against credential leaks. Fewer false positives and fewer false negatives let security teams scale autonomous commits with more confidence.
