Tasks in Gemini (formerly Gemini Spark)
Also known as: Gemini Spark, Google Gemini Spark, Tasks in Gemini, Task in Gemini, Gemini Task, Gemini task mode
Tasks in Gemini, which Google launched as Gemini Spark, hands a multistep goal to a cloud agent in the Gemini app that keeps working in the background and on schedules. It acts across Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets and Drive, connected apps such as Canva, Instacart and OpenTable, and any MCP server a user adds, and on desktop it drives the user's own Chrome. Gemini asks before it sends, buys, deletes or submits a form. Tasks come with Google AI Pro and Ultra on personal Google Accounts.
Google builds the Gemini app, its consumer assistant on the web, Android, iOS and Mac, and Google is part of Alphabet. In May 2026 Google introduced Gemini Spark inside the app as a personal agent that works around the clock in the cloud, built on Gemini 3.5 and the agent harness from Google Antigravity. It reached Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US first, then AI Pro subscribers in the US in July and, from July 30, Pro subscribers in more than 160 further countries. In October 2026 Google renamed it Task, a mode that sits beside Chat in the app, and its plans page now calls it Tasks in Gemini. Google Antigravity, Jules and AI Studio have their own profiles.
A person describes a goal and Gemini plans the steps and works through them in the background, carrying on after the laptop closes or the phone locks, with up to 15 tasks running at once. Schedules start work at a set time or when an event happens, and they watch topics such as news, finance, sports and local events. A task reads and writes across Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Keep and Google Tasks, uses Search, Maps, Flights and Hotels, and reaches Canva, Instacart, OpenTable, Dropbox and Zillow, while Custom Connected Apps add any personal or third party MCP server.
On desktop it drives the user's own Chrome with signed in sites and, with permission, saved passwords. Elsewhere it works in a remote browser in Google's cloud and on a remote computer that runs code. Skills are reusable instructions a user writes and calls with @, and Personal Intelligence brings in saved info, past chats and connected apps. A work panel shows each step and file, and Gemini asks before it sends a message, changes or deletes data, buys something, submits a form or signs in with Google.
Tasks come with Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month and with Google AI Ultra, which starts at $99.99 a month and has a $199.99 tier carrying 20 times the Pro usage limits. Usage is metered in compute, and Gemini warns as a user nears the limit. Only personal Google Accounts held by adults qualify, with work and school accounts excluded for now, and task mode requires Keep Activity, under which chats can help train Google's models and a sample is read by human reviewers. Activity auto deletes after 18 months by default. Tasks are unavailable in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and everything runs in Google's cloud with no choice of region.
Tasks in Gemini fits people who already run their lives through Gmail, Calendar and Drive and want recurring errands, digests and monitoring handled without opening an app, along with Pro subscribers who want an agent that can also work in their own browser. Businesses on Google Workspace accounts cannot turn it on yet, and no API lets other software call a task. Anyone who needs to test an agent's output against cases or choose a model from another maker will find neither here.

Integrations
Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Sheets, Slides, Keep and Google Tasks, plus Contacts, Google Photos, YouTube, Gemini Notebook, Search, Maps, Flights, Hotels and Finance. Connected Apps add Canva, Instacart, OpenTable, Dropbox and Zillow, and Custom Connected Apps reach personal or third party apps through MCP server URLs. On desktop, auto browse works in the user's own Chrome with signed in sites, and Sign in with Google connects new services after the user confirms.
In practice
A parent sets a task to check a school inbox every evening for new deadlines. Gemini reads the day's mail and sends back a short digest of anything due, and the schedule keeps running in the cloud while the parent's phone stays locked.
A renter asks Gemini to line up apartment viewings. On a desktop it works in the renter's own Chrome with their signed in accounts, searches listings, fills in each request form and stops for approval before submitting it.
Once a month a task scans the latest credit card statement in Gmail for new or subscription fees, adds them to a Google Sheet and flags any charge that has appeared since the last run.

A task can work across Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Sheets, Slides, Keep and Google Tasks, along with Contacts, Google Photos, YouTube, Gemini Notebook, Search, Maps, Flights, Hotels and Finance. Since July it edits private spreadsheets and presentations, reads comments in Docs, Sheets and Slides, and edits shared files. Connected Apps add Canva, Instacart, OpenTable, Dropbox and Zillow, and Custom Connected Apps link any personal or third party app through an MCP server URL. Given a multistep goal, Gemini plans the steps and carries them out in the background as a cloud agent, so the work goes on after the laptop closes or the phone locks. One request can pull meeting notes from email and chat, write a Google Doc and draft the follow up email, and on complex work Gemini retrieves and reviews several sources in parallel. Up to 15 tasks run at the same time, and a scheduled run is skipped while 15 are already going. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/17094507read 2026-10-24 |

Personal Intelligence lets a task draw on memory of past chats, Instructions for Gemini, the Connected Apps that work with it, the sites a user is signed into and location. Files come in from the device, Google Drive or a Gemini Notebook, and Search, Gmail and Drive supply live material as a task needs it. Each task assembles its context from those personal sources, and there is no knowledge base that a team curates or indexes for the agent. Gemini asks before it sends a message, changes or deletes data, makes a purchase or financial transaction, submits a web form or signs in with Google, and safety checks still pause before sharing health, financial or government ID details even when an action is set to Always allow. In a remote browser the user can watch live, take over the task and hand it back. Denying an action ends that approach with no workaround, and stopping from the text box cancels the whole task. Bulk actions on private Google Tasks can run without a prompt. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/17094507read 2026-10-24 |

Tasks run only for personal Google Accounts held by adults 18 and over, with work and school accounts excluded for now. Chrome asks once before auto browse may connect and Gemini confirms each browsing task, passwords and payment details go in on the site itself after the user takes control, and the user links each Connected App. Task mode requires Keep Activity, so chats can help train Google's models and a sample goes to human reviewers who keep it for up to three years. Tasks carry no compliance certification and sit outside any admin console. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/17094507read 2026-10-24 |

A progress chip on each task opens a work panel listing the steps Gemini took and the files it read or updated, and remote browser work can be watched live. Tasks and chats share one history in the sidebar, the Scheduled page lists every schedule, and conversations stay in Gemini Apps Activity, where they can be reviewed and deleted. That record lives inside the app for one person, with no exportable log of each action a task took. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/17094507read 2026-10-24 |

Gemini keeps saved info about a user's life, work and preferences under Personal context, where each item can be switched off, edited or deleted, and it can reference past chats. A task's remote browser keeps sign in cookies between sessions and its remote computer keeps data between runs, both deletable in settings, and turning off task mode erases them. Saved info carries no retention period of its own, while chats in Activity auto delete after 18 months by default. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/16413516read 2026-10-24 |

Tasks run as a cloud agent on Google's infrastructure, with a remote browser and a remote computer that Google hosts, and on desktop they can also drive the user's own Chrome. People reach them through the Gemini mobile app, the Mac app and the web, in every country where Gemini Apps is offered except the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. A user cannot choose where task data is processed or stored, and there is no private or self hosted option. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/17094507read 2026-10-24 |

Skills are reusable instructions with added context that a user writes, then picks with @ or lets Gemini apply when relevant, and they also work in ordinary chats without a subscription. Saying set up, get started or interview me opens a guided conversation in which Gemini helps build a first skill and task. Every skill starts with the user, and there is no catalog of ready made skills, agents or task templates to adopt. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/17094507read 2026-10-24 |

Schedules start a task automatically at a set date and time or in response to an event, and since June 30 they watch topics such as news, finance, sports and local events. Each schedule pauses or resumes from its task thread or the Scheduled page, and schedules stop running while task mode is off. People start and follow tasks in the Gemini mobile app, the Mac app and at gemini.google.com, notifications say what input a task needs, and Mac remote control lets the Gemini app act on a Mac from another device. Tasks run on Gemini 3.5, Google's own model family, and no option brings in a model from another maker or routes parts of a task to one. Usage is metered in compute, rising from Google AI Pro to the two Ultra tiers, which carry 5 and 20 times the Pro limits, and Gemini warns when a user nears the limit. A person shapes a task through its goal, skills and connected apps, while the model behind it stays Google's. Tasks are started and managed only inside the Gemini apps on mobile, Mac and the web. Custom Connected Apps let a task call out to a personal or third party MCP server, and developers build on Gemini models through Google's separate developer products, but no API, SDK or MCP server lets outside software create a task, send it work or read its results. Google warns that Gemini can make mistakes and do unexpected things during a task, and that prompt injection on the web is a real risk. Checking a result means reading the work panel's steps and files or watching the remote browser live, then correcting the task in its thread. A user has no test cases, scored evaluations or comparison of a task's output across changes to its instructions or skills. Sourcesupport.google.com/gemini/answer/17094507read 2026-10-24 |

Pricing
Included with Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month and Google AI Ultra from $99.99 a month, with a $199.99 Ultra tier
Monthly Google AI subscription per personal Google Account, with a compute based usage allowance that rises by plan.
Included quota
Each plan carries a compute based allowance for tasks. Ultra at $99.99 carries 5 times the Pro usage limits and Ultra at $199.99 carries 20 times, and up to 15 tasks run at once on any plan.
What is public
Monthly prices for Google AI Plus, Pro and both Ultra tiers, which plans include tasks, the relative usage limits of the Ultra tiers and the cap of 15 concurrent tasks.
Billing mechanics
A person subscribes to Google AI Pro or Ultra on a personal Google Account and turns on task mode in the Gemini app. Usage draws on the plan's compute allowance, and canceling or downgrading lets running tasks finish, pauses schedules and removes access.
Cost watchouts
The Pro allowance is stated only as a multiple of free usage, so heavy scheduled work can hit the limit and push a user toward Ultra.
Variable cost rationale
Tasks sit inside a flat monthly plan with a compute allowance and no per task charge, so the bill changes only when a user moves between plans. Purchases a task makes, such as groceries or bookings, are paid separately by the user.
Additional watchouts
Downgrading below Pro pauses every schedule, and turning off task mode deletes the remote browser and remote computer data.
Overage / add-ons
Gemini warns as a user nears the limit, and more task capacity comes from moving up a plan, from Pro to either Ultra tier.
Sales call required
No, self serve available
Free / trial
Not on the free plan or Google AI Plus
Lowest paid plan
Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month
Commercial notes
Ultra subscribers get first access to new task features. Tasks are unavailable in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and work or school accounts cannot subscribe for tasks.
Key ambiguities
Google states allowances as multiples of free or Pro usage, never as a count of tasks or compute units, and the plans page shows no annual prices.
Missing data
Annual prices, trial terms for Pro or Ultra, and the size of each plan's compute allowance.
