Agentic Index

Autonom8 vs Camunda (2026)

Autonom8 and Camunda run customer and back office processes on BPMN with LLM agents inside the flow, and they suit different builders. That verdict is the Agentic Index coverage score, graded from each vendor's own published materials.

Autonom8 is a low code studio aimed at banking journeys. Builders draw the journey, design forms and drop into JavaScript or TypeScript, and agents are prompt steps on a Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic model whose output the workflow acts on, since agent tools are still to come. Camunda is an orchestration engine for developers. Its AI Agent connector runs a full agent loop inside the Zeebe engine, choosing BPMN activities, connectors and MCP tools as its tools, with retrieval over a vector store, more than 400 prebuilt connectors, RPA for systems without APIs and Process Test checks on agent answers. A packaged journey builder priced per workflow run is Autonom8's offer. Camunda answers when developers need agents that call tools inside long running, audited processes, with a choice of cloud region or self hosting.

This comparison is published by Agentic Index, an independent agentic AI vendor research platform. Autonom8 and Camunda are each graded against the same 14 capability Agentic Index taxonomy, from the vendor's own public materials under the Agentic Index verification standard, alongside 1,006 researched vendors. No vendor pays for placement and no vendor has reviewed this page. How this evidence is graded

Choose Autonom8 if

  • Business teams should build journeys and forms in a browser studio with little code.
  • A price per workflow run, a few dollars per loan for a complex flow, suits your volumes.
  • Customer self service journeys, chat and live support should come in the same product.
  • Agent output only needs to be text or typed JSON that the workflow then uses.

Choose Camunda if

  • Agents should pick their own tools, from service tasks and connectors to MCP servers and user tasks.
  • You need agents grounded in your documents through a vector store.
  • Clusters should run in a chosen Google Cloud or AWS region, or entirely on your own infrastructure.
  • Agent changes should pass judge and semantic similarity tests before release.
  • Legacy desktop or mainframe screens need RPA inside the same process.

Action & orchestration

Integrations & Tool Calling

Ability to connect agents to real systems through native integrations, OAuth-authenticated actions, custom tools, APIs, webhooks, or MCP-compatible tools.

Workflow Orchestration

Ability to sequence, branch, retry, route, and combine deterministic workflow nodes with autonomous agent steps.

Triggers & Channel Coverage

How agents wake up and where they work: schedules, webhooks, message events, CRM events, inbox events, chat, email, voice, and collaboration tools.

Knowledge & context

Knowledge Grounding & RAG

Ability to ground agent behavior in company data through document ingestion, retrieval, external knowledge APIs, semantic search, or RAG layers.

Memory & State Persistence

Ability to persist context across a run, conversation, workflow, user, team, or longer-term memory layer.

Control & trust

Human Oversight & Guardrails

Approval steps, consent checkpoints, escalation rules, structured guardrails, policy constraints, and pause/resume controls.

Security, Identity & Governance

RBAC, SSO, auditability, encryption, least-privilege tool access, compliance posture, and data handling policy.

Observability & Auditability

Traces, logs, execution histories, metrics, audit events, and debugging detail for production agent behavior.

Deployment & Data Residency

Deployment modes and options, including SaaS, dedicated cloud, VPC, on-prem, hybrid, local runtime, and self-hosting.

Solution readiness

Prebuilt Agents, Templates & Packs

Ready-made workflows, packaged employees, templates, blueprints, industry solutions, and role-specific agents that reduce time-to-value.

Platform extensibility

Model Flexibility & Routing

Ability to work across multiple foundation models, route tasks to different models, or let buyers bring their own providers and keys.

APIs, SDKs & MCP Extensibility

Composability layer: stable APIs, SDKs, MCP tool consumption/serving, custom tools, and integration into internal systems.

Testing, Debugging & Optimization

Testing, debugging, scoring, retries, fallbacks, quality gates, and optimization loops for improving agent workflows before and after deployment.

Specialist automation

Browser & Computer Use

Browser, desktop, or remote/local computer control for workflows that cannot be handled through stable APIs alone.

Uniphore said on 28 August 2025 that it intends to buy Autonom8. No completion has been announced, and Autonom8 trades under its own name. A8Flow's access settings include a Camunda BPMN administrator group permission. Camunda holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and TISAX, while Autonom8's product docs show no certification.
